Teammate Update: Schumacher's Back at the Dining Table
Former Formula One (F1) racer Johnny Herbert got word that Michael Schumacher is back to eating at the table after his ex-teammate from Benetton underwent intensive treatment due to an accident. Schumacher had the mishap while skiing in Meribel, France, on December 29, 2013. Since then, the seven-time F1 champion has kept a low profile, avoiding the media.
Herbert shared that Schumacher's condition has been improving after the unfortunate incident a decade ago. "I heard from F1 people that they [Schumacher and his family] are back at the dining table, but I don't know if it's true. I'm just trying to read the news I get. We don't get much information about the Schumacher family, and that's understandable," Herbert said, as quoted by Marca.
Herbert finds it reasonable for the Schumacher family to stay away from the public and media spotlight. The three-time F1 race winner mentioned that Schumacher has the right to limit the attention on himself. "It's typical of Michael Schumacher and his family to keep everything very private and secret," he added.
Furthermore, Herbert believes that the public should respect Schumacher's decision regarding his private life. He hopes people will refrain from making speculations that could impact Schumacher. As of now, neither Schumacher nor his family has provided any comments, leaving Schumacher's current condition somewhat unclear.
"I have to empathize because we haven't heard directly from the family. This shows that they might want to be in the right situation after the accident," Herbert said. "In my opinion, the family is waiting for medical results to determine something that we hope will bring back the Michael [Schumacher] we know," Herbert added.
