The factory racing team of Honda (HRC/Repsol Honda) has reportedly scheduled a total of 22 private test sessions as part of their preparations for the upcoming MotoGP season in 2024.
According to the official MotoGP website on Wednesday (17/1/2024), the private test sessions will feature their two main riders, Joan Mir and Luca Marini, along with the team's reserve rider, Stefan Bradl.
Further details reveal that one of these private test sessions is set to take place at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto in Spain on January 24 and 25. Bradl, who is a Honda rider in the World Superbike (WSBK) category, will also be gearing up for the official MotoGP test session at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia at the beginning of February.
Honda is reportedly in the process of searching for a second test rider or reserve rider to assist Bradl and provide valuable insights to Mir and Marini during the testing sessions.
On the other hand, another Japanese manufacturer, Yamaha, has previously announced its intention to follow in Honda's footsteps in refining the performance of its motorcycles alongside its riders in preparation for MotoGP 2024.
This information was disclosed by Yamaha's new rider, Alex Rins, who mentioned that he would be participating in a substantial number of private test sessions. "They are working on this plan (private test sessions). I will definitely do tests in Sepang... I think with more time for testing, it means there's more to learn," said Rins. "I feel good because this gives me the opportunity to be better prepared for the start of the season," he added. This season marks Rins' debut with Yamaha, and he will be partnering with Fabio Quartararo.
Following a series of official MotoGP test sessions in Sepang and Qatar for 2024, the upcoming season will kick off with the first grand prix at the International Lusail Circuit in Qatar from March 8-11.
